I'm a bioinformatician specializing in molecular evolution. My work involves the interpretation of genomic data, in particular protein-coding sequences. To do this, I develop and use phylogenetic models that allow me to test hypotheses about the evolutionary mechanisms (mutation, selection, and demographic processes) that affect proteins. My playground is the living. One of the challenges of the research field is to account for interdependencies in evolutionary processes (e.g. context-dependent mutations, selection relative to protein 3D structure, etc.), which significantly increases the parameter space of phylogenetic models and requires the development of alternatives to standard likelihood calculus. To this end, I'm interested in simulation-based inference.
